New Year is a time that often feels like a new beginning and things can change. It is an opportunity to start fresh and set goals for the New Year. Have you planned to lose weight, stop smoking or join the gym?

But how can you achieve all these goals? Generali Vitality shows you how:

1) Stay positive: It is all about your state of mind. Believe in yourself and your ability to make a positive change. Picture yourself in a year’s time and imagine yourself as a healthier, happier person who managed to stick to his New Year resolution list.

2) Stick to realistic goals: stick to realizable goals. If you want to stop smoking or join the gym, that’s fine. But don’t plan to run the marathon if you haven’t ever run a race before. Smaller feasible targets will be easier and less of a strain on you. Like a half marathon for example. Don’t be too hard on yourself.

3) Don’t give up: it can be hard to stick to your plan but don’t give up when you find it hard to stick to your resolutions. On average it takes around 3 weeks to form a new habit. The longer you stick to your new habit, the easier you will find it to make a resolution a habit like going to the gym, for instance.

4) Set reminders: One of the easiest ways to stick to a new habit is setting reminders on your smartphone. Apps like Streak or  Productive Habit Tracker make it simple to keep track your habits and get reminded to keep track of them during the day.

Remember: change doesn’t have a starting date, change can happen anytime. Every day is a chance to begin again. Don’t focus on the failures of yesterday, start today with positive thoughts and expectations. (Catherine Pulsifer)
